The National Science Museum is recognized as the most visited museum in Bangkok, attracting ever more visitors through its doors each year. It is an institution that is extremely difficult to ignore, primarily thanks to the original building in which the exposition is situated. The grandiose construction of the Science Museum is a real masterpiece of contemporary architecture, consisting of two huge cubes that seem to balance upon one facet. These are made from glass, plastic and metal. Moving inside however, the museum’s exposition is interesting not only for avid fans of science and technology, but also for those who are interested in Thailand’s history, culture and everyday life.

The National Science Museum’s halls are full of interesting exhibits that illustrate the many advances in science over the last 200 years, spread over an area covering six floors. Most of the exhibits are interactive, which allows guest to learn the nature of complex scientific phenomena in captivating way.

The most interesting section is traditionally the one depicts the introduction of technology into the modern man’s life and shows the importance of scientific development in it. Guests young and old can learn just how the appliances that we use every day are constructed: the TV, iron, radiator, vacuum cleaner, steamer, and many others besides. A separate part of the exposition is devoted to the development of the energy sector, demonstrating the technology that allows us to understand exactly how the electricity, heat, light and chemical energies are used in practice.

There is also a natural section to the Science museum. Its exhibits include ancient fossils, as well as photo and video materials about the consequences of natural disasters, live insects and an impressive collection dedicated to the underwater world. In particular, you can see a chameleon frog that changes color depending on the place where it is sitting, personally observe the many stages of the transformation of a caterpillar into a butterfly, and much more.

The National Science Museum’s space division demonstrates models of spacecrafts, space suits and tubes with food for astronauts. It is also possible to make a virtual expedition to Mars.

A separate exposition is dedicated to Thailand, its scientific discoveries, ecology, climate, geology, culture and history. Its exhibits include antique works of art, archeological artefacts found on the kingdom’s territory, as well as expositions introducing the discoveries of local scientists.

Temporary exhibitions present collections from different museums and scientific centers of the world and take place in the Bangkok National Science Museum virtually every month. In addition to these, further expositions illustrating inventions and discoveries of Thai scientists, including those of Thailand’s king, who remarkably patented artificial rain, an aerator saturating water with oxygen and a unique way of processing palm oil into automotive fuel. The exhibition of robots, which traditionally gathers a huge number of visitors, is organized at the Science Museum once a year.

The museum has recently opened a 4D-cinema that screens popular science films about wonders of nature, global warming and other phenomena.
